I have a list of essential oils. I want to know the health benefits of each one. I need help with edema.?
Look them all up on the net.
Reply:You need to resolve the reason for your edema. There are some serious health concerns that you should address. But...your question was about the essential oils.

Geranium-The Pelargoniums readily cross and hybridize, creating a myriad of related plants. This oil should arguably be called Pelargonium. The true Geranium plant, Geranium macrorrhizum, a common plant native to the Balkans that is distilled to produce an oil called Zdravetz. This essential oil is used topically as an astringent and as an additive to skin applications for broken capillaries, burns and for couperose skin. It encourages cellular regeneration and wound healing. Is often employed in a massage oil for cellulite, engorged breasts, to encourage lymphatic drainage or edema. Used as an inhalant to stimulate the adrenocortico glands, as an antidepressant and to reduce anxiety and stress.

Thyme-Organic. Thymus vulgaris is a species that has many different chemotypes. This Thyme is a chemotype that produces an oil with a very high percentage of linalool, it is fairly sweet smelling and tends to be the least irritating and is safe for moderate use. When taken internally it stimulates and purifies the digestive and urinary systems. It can be used with great success in treating an internal candida infection. It can be added to preparations for the face to treat acne and oily skin. As an inhalant is used to treat bronchitis and other afflictions of the lower respiratory system. It is effective against a cough that is deep and spasmodic. Can be used topically to treat strains, sprains and swelling as it is an analgesic and increases circulation. This Thyme can be used safely to support the immune system, it is effective against just about all infections, especially against those that present as bronchitis and tonsillitis. The scent is stimulating on a cerebral and psychic level, this can be helpful in cases of a deficiency such as an irrational response or acting out of control.

Corriander-Smells like the culinary herb seeds and foliage. Note that the eo from the seed is called Coriander and the oil from the leaves is Cilantro or Chinese parsley. Like most all of the herbs that we are familiar with as culinary additives, Coriander is a preservative because it is an antioxidant, is bactericidal and fungicidal. It is also used as a general tonic for the digestive system. Coriander is an anti-inflammatory and a sedative. Is used to relieve stress, anxiety and insomnia. Used in a massage oil to relieve migraine headaches and arthritis pain. Increases circulation to rid an accumulation of toxins or fluid. Can be used in applications for the face to alleviate oily skin and blackheads.

Lemon-This smells just like you would expect, bright and clean and like someone is peeling a lemon. Lemon oil is antibacterial and antiseptic. Some of the efficacy of the oil is lost when it has aged. Since citrus oils age rather quickly find ways to use you lemon while it it still nice and fresh. Lemon oil is best employed for its scent, it is added to cleansers for the home and body .Use care when using topically as it can be phototoxic.

Ginger-The rhizomes of this plant are used.

Not to be confused with Galangal, which is known as Chinese ginger or ginger root. Definitely hot and spicy. Ginger is a powerful tonic for the entire digestive system. It is an antiemetic. Great when rubbed into tight neck and shoulders to decongest and ease complaints associatd with the common cold and flu. Increases circulation and raises body temperature. Marjoram-Also called Marjoram, Oregano or Origanum marjorana. Be aware that this yoriganumy contains no phenols. This can be added to a massage oil to treat muscle aches and pains and stiffness. Ylang-This oil has a very fruity and heavy scent. There are a few grades available on the commercial market. The oil that comes off of the steam during the first hour contains a high percentage of esters and ethers. This is the yextray. The rest of the oil is graded first, second and third. Those grades are determined by the hour they came out of the still. These are used to treat inflamed skin and insect bites. If used in a massage blend it can alleviate a feeling of congestion in the pelvis. Ylang is an aphrodesiac that traditionally was fixed in coconut oil and used for the hair and skin. Ylang is an antidepressant, a euphoric and a sedative. It slows rapid breathing and lowers blood pressure and heart rate. As an inhalant it eases tension, anger and pain. It has importance in the fragrance trade.

Rosemary-Wild growing plants are used. This high camphor Rosemary is best used for general fatigue and infection because it stimulates the body and mind generally. Fennel-Sweet and licorice-like.

Like so many of the herbs that we associate with food, Fennel is often employed as a general stomach tonic. Most of the actions are attributed to the internal use of the whole seed. Basil-Organic and certified.

Warm and spicy scent, like the culinary herb. This Basil is more antispasmodic and calming than the chavicol. A better choice of the two as a digestive aid. Used generally as an antispasmodic, pain reliever and as a decongestant of the veins and arteries. Used to increase digestion and viral infections.. Reply:First off, you need to know why you have edema. Do you have diabetes, lymphedema, vein problems, heart problems, kidney malfunction? If you don't know why you have edema to start with you need to find out and not fiddle with essential oils. You'd need blood work, urine tests, heart tests, and vein tests, then if ruled out illnesses, they would look towards lymphedema. No essential oil is going to reduce edema. They may claim they do, but having lymphedema myself and researching for years, I know better.
