What's the least temperature geraniums can survive in? Is it too early to plant some outdoors?

a standard geranium doesn't like being in temps under 45-50 degrees.... it won't actually KILL them to be in such temps, but they will stop growing and the leaves will take on a reddish hue if they have gotten too cold.... and they will 'pout' for a good long time after, too.... takes them quite a while to 'get over it' and start growing again....



I learned my lesson!... mine don't go out until after Mother's Day!.. I'm in zone 7, CHarlotte NC

I think it depends on where you live. Mine are planted outside all year round
Reply:Depends on where you llive. Here in the deep south where I live, it would be okay. If there are still frost where you live, then don't do it.

In the colder zones, tender geraniums can be planted after the last killing frost in your area.



Hardy Cranesbills geraniums" can survive the cold northern winter temperatures to -20C .....

However, this doesn't apply to the more tender geraniums.

Check the hardiness zone your geranium is suited for before planting outdoors, so you don't harm a "tender geranium" by planting too early. If in doubt, don't plant until after the last killing frost.
