i know its not yet, but just thought i would ask whilst it's on my mind, also, are they hard to grow? and are they ok to grow in trays? This is for next years gardens, i want to have all salmon pink or red geraniums with purple lobeilia on the borders.
When should i start to grow geraniums and lobelia in trays in a greenhouse?
Take cuttings of geraniums just now in a heated greenhouse and sow your lobelia seeds in January to February.
Reply:a good lobellia is crystal palace for the front of your borders , i would suggest an easy option for these were to buy them in plug form from a reputable garden centre and transplant them into trays to grow on . The reason for this being that they require a warm temperature to germinate properly . If you were to try from seed then i suggest sarting them about march and try using vermiculite to cover the seed instead of compost .
As for the geraniums there are so so many varities to choose from but go to a garden centre in the spring and buy these as plug plants about 75p each to grow on . Once you have established your plants then you can take cuttings from these which you can over winter for the following year .
