WHen can I move geraniums outside in CT?

I live along the coast of CT and want to move my pink geraniums outside but I am worried about the frost.

Depends what you mean by geranium.



If you mean actual geraniums, most are perrenial and should be fine - they have a five petaled pink to purple flower, and usually have scented foliage (smells of citrus and cedar)



If you mean Pelargonium, which are almost always called "Geranium" they are a subtropical/tropical annual and will not tolerate cold temparatures.



They are both common garden plants.

Reply:I was always told that the rule in New England is nothing outside before Memorial Day. You could put them out in the day and take them in everynight. I've done that. It's so much work.
Reply:Geraniums are tropical and should'nt be put outside when nights are below 45 to 50 degrees, frost is not the only worry, cold windy nights can harm the plants leaves, and fragile stems, on the days when it is sunny, put your geraniums out side and bring them back in at night,about two

weeks before it is time to leave them out side for the rest of the season. This will make them stronger because the sun will stimulate the plants growth system. Hope warm weather come soon for you!!!
